The First Week

Welcome the the first week of this blog! This week will be about my hometown, Raleigh, NC. I was born and raised there and consider the whole state from the Outer Banks the Boone to be my home. Despite this, I don't know much about my hometown's history or founders. In this week's edition, I will be learning a lot more about North Carolina's capital and hopefully so will you.

Raleigh is a beautiful place with a hint of country and a hint of city(in the downtown).

The top Photo is out the Raleigh that I lived in, North Raleigh. This is where the Green way trail, a segment of the Sea to Summit Trail which went from the ocean to the mountains. The photo on the bottom was downtown Raleigh. This area is very old and very small. It is also home to three prestigious universities, UNC(University of North Carolina), NC State(North Carolina State University), Duke University(Commonly referred to as the Ivy League of the South).

Raleigh is also the second largest city in the state, second to Charlotte. It is also the fastest growing city in the country according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This city goes all the way back to the beginning of the United States of America. Raleigh was determined as the state capital in 1788. The reason that Raleigh was chosen as the state capital because of its prime location in the center of the state, which helped to prevent Indian attacks. Raleigh was also one of the only cities in America that was designed to be a state capital. The city was originally created with an East, West, North, South side which all connected into a city square. The city has also grown through the next few centuries. Recently, in the 21st century, Raleigh was on the top 10 list of Forbes, MSNBC, and Money Magazine because of its favorable business climate.
